When light bends (or is deflected) as it passes through a transparent medium, it’s called diacaustic.
The most well-known example is probably the reflections and refractions of light on the bottom of a lake or the sea. The images in this work are created by projecting shapes onto a wall using an RGB laser, and then refracting the light through specially bent shards of glass. In addition to the very unique visuality, the process is interesting because the input signal to the laser is digital, but the refraction of the light distorts and alters the digital signal through an analog intervention. The results look like they’re from a computer, but they are handmade, depending on the angle of the glass shard.
